June 20th EMS Forum draws 60 citizens from the area to hear County's plans for restructuring.

The forum held at the East Lake Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall brought an exciting discussion by your government representatives on the County Budget for next year, the results of the EMS study and possible property tax increases looming for county residents.

Joining us were County Commissioners, Chair Susan Latvala and Neil Brickfield, the County Administrator Bob LaSala and Asst. County Administrator Moe Freaney who discussed the recent EMS study and the proposed changes relating to next years budgets.

May 16th Legislative Session Update & Student Essay Contest Awards

Join us to hear Senator Mike Fasano and Representative Peter Nehr and others discuss the 2011 State Legislatures actions both good and bad. Have an opportunity to hear what happened and ask questions of your legislators.

We will also present the awards for the Palm Harbor Student Essay contest launched in April. There will be over $1,400 in prizes given away to 4 categories of students in grades 3-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12. For more details on the contest and to learn how to enter click here


Learn about the 2011 All or None Annexation Bill for East Lake & Community Overlays

Join us for an informative meeting that will discuss the All or None Annexation bill being introduced in the State Legislature during the 2011 session in Tallahassee. Also learn about the effects of the community overlay in the 1st public forum of 2011. The East Lake Tarpon Community Overlay is scheduled to be presented to the county commission in April / May.


CNCN Holds Annual Members Meeting and Board Elections Monday January 17th 7pm.

Join in the annual membership meeting where the board of directors will review the accomplishments and challenges of 2010 an set the vision for 2011. Lots of great things are beginning to happen in north Pinellas County and the Ozona, Crystal Beach, Palm Harbor and East Lake areas are beginning to get noticed by the county and state legislators in a positive way.

The nominating committee has published a slate of nominees for the board and the membership will have an opportunity to vote for the 2011 directors at the meeting.

County Commission Town Hall meeting held at East Lake Woodlands November 15th.

East Lake Woodlands Country Club is the host for the County Commission's visit to the unincorporated area of northern Pinellas County. Join the CNCN Board and the County Commissioners in an old fashioned town meeting to discuss issues of importance to our areas' residents. There will be presentations by CNCN and the Commissioners and time for public Q & A.


Official Launch of East Lake Tarpon Community Overlay & ELYSA Sports Forum held October 25th at Lutheran Church in East Lake.

CNCN Board of Directors officially unveils the 1st draft of theCommunity Overlay document for East Lake. This document will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners for inclusion in the County's Comprehensive Plan as a guideline for any changes that will effect the East Lake area in a few months. Input from everyone residing in the East Lake area is strongly needed to gain consensus on what's important. In addition there was a discussion forum to stakeholders in the East Lake Youth Sports complex to gain consensus on where to build the expansion fields, what they should look like and how to find funding to pay for them. Candidates Forum held September 20th with State, County & Local offices. Baynews 9 Senior Anchor Al Ruechel moderated a vibrant candidates forum at the East Lake Lutheran Church. Candidates for State House of Representatives District 48 Peter Nehr and Tom McKone helped education the public on which one would be the best choice. A few sparks flew during the County Commission District 4 race between incumbent Susan Latvala and challenger Bob Hackworth over their approach to handling the budget shortfalls. And the candidates for East Lake Tarpon Fire Commissioner helped the attendees understand what the commissioners do and why they each should be elected. The forum was attended by over 150 people from the northern Pinellas County area.

Election Amendments Forum held Monday August 16th 7pm. CNCN held a forum for a public information discussion on this years key amendments. We provided descriptions of each the 9 proposed amendments. In addition there were lively pros & cons discussions from experts for Amendments 4, 5, and 6. For Amendment 4 Chris Giuliana, attorney in Dunedin provided the Pro position and Kathleen Peters VP at Clearwater Chamber provided the position against. Susan Smith from www.FairDistricts.org provided information of 5 & 6. 

Sports & Recreation Public Forum held July 19th Citizens concerned about youth sports and recreation facilities and programs for the children in northern Pinellas County attended this public forum on Monday July 19th at 7pm at the Crescent Oaks Country Club. The forum brought the stakeholders together in a moderated forum setting to discuss how to provide better facilities and programs for the youth in north Pinellas County. Members of the ELYSA board of directors, Commissioner Latvala, County Parks, Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve, YMCA, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and CNCN directors were in attendance. Positive progress was made and a committee formed to expedite the process of forming a consensus and developing a workable plan to solve this decades old issue. Candidates Forum held June 21st showcased candidates in the primary elections who will represent Northern Pinellas County. Over 75 attendees listened to candidates for House district 48, County Commission district 4, School Board and East Lake Fire Commission. CNCN Board and the public joined in a moderated event to help you get to know the candidates and find answers to how they will represent the interests of our communities. "What I like about living and growing up in East Lake" Essay Contest a HUGE SUCCESS.
CNCN gave out 12 awards to the top 3 essays in elementary and High school grades on Monday May 17th at East Lake High School. Representative Nehr and Senator Fasano along with the school principles handed out the awards to the kids. Awards ranged from $300 scholarships to Astro Skate party for 20. All the kids and their parents had a great time.

Building Stronger Communities 2010: Generating interest in communities to be a part of a larger group to share common goals and ideas. Join us for monthly meetings to discuss how you can work with other communities in your area on issues of common interest.

Help design a Community Overlay for East Lake to help define the quality of life standards for this area of 33,000 residents. A new committee has been formed to help gather information on this important project to be voted on by all East Lake communities and submitted to the county Planning Department to be included in the County's Comprehensive Plan. Additional Areas of Involvement:

Initiative to "Protect the borders of the area known as East Lake" from annexation by surrounding cities. We are working with the State Legislature to draft new legislation to provide an "all or nothing" requirement for any future annexation attempt. This important document was submitted to the state legislature for the 2010 session.

Working with the County for alternative solutions for the much needed sports fields in North County. Update 01/31/10 We are working with SWFWMD and the County to move the parking to an adjacent vacant field to provide better safety for the children a more space. Update 11/06/08: CNCN publishes "Study for Active Recreation Facilities in East Lake" paper to help everyone understand what's happening.

We are working with the residents of Tarpon Woods with the flooding they have experienced for decades. Update 11/2010: SWFWMD and Pinellas County jointly fund $1.9 million for much needed improvements. Construction to begin early 2011!

County begins construction on the Keystone / Tarpon Avenue widening project. Update 07/2010: County has begun preliminary road and survey work for the project.

Formed an alliance with Clearwater Neighborhood Coalition (CNC) to work together on issues affected Pinellas County.

Supported CONA St. Petersburg efforts related to the newly proposed Rays Stadium in downtown St. Pete.

CNCN Mission

The mission of the Council is to bring together the North County's neighborhoods to promote communication and cooperation between member organizations of Northern Pinellas County, to foster a sense of community, to provide a forum for member organizations, and most important is to act as a neighborhood advocate for the benefit of our member organizations and to bring a common voice to county government including and not limited to the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners.

CNCN is a non-profit Florida Corporation (501c4) organized to represent communities in Northern Pinellas County.

CONA - St PeteWe are associated with Council of Neighborhood Associations in St Petersburg http://conastpete.org/ and supportive of their efforts.

We have also formed an alliance with the Clearwater Neighborhood Coalition in Clearwater FL http://clearwatercoalition.com and help support their initiatives
